The group Pierre et Vacances has chosen Vienne as its preferred location for a new Center Parcs holiday complex according to lechotouristique.fr, although a final decision on the project will not be made until later in the year.
The 300 million euro project could see 800 holiday chalets built in the forest between the communes of Trois-Moutiers and Morton, near to Loudun. As well as creating around 600 permanent jobs, the initiative will also have a wider impact on jobs in other industries, such as local suppliers, according to the conseil general.
The new complex will be the sixth of its type in France, and if the project does go-ahead, it could open as early as 2014-15.
