Description:
The notoriously hilly centre of Poitiers has never been an easy place to cycle around, but that is all set to change in the autumn.
Grand Poitiers has ordered 50 electric bikes that will be available to rent from the three Cap’Vélo hire points in the town from the end of September. At 1400 euros each, the bikes are an expensive investment, but the hope is that they tempt more people into choosing the bicycle over the car for getting around the town centre.
Because of the high costs involved, anybody who wants to hire one will have to hand over their bank details, and sign a guarantee that enables Cap’Vélo to put a charge of 900 euros on the account, should the bike fail to be returned, or if it is damaged.
Cap’Vélo bicycles are available from three outlets (car parks Carnot and de Gaulle, and Pôle d'échanges multimodal - espace Toumaï), and their bikes can be identified by their yellow and blue markings. Hire costs from 3€ a day, although a joint car park/bike hire reduction is also available.
More information is available from the Grand Poitiers website.
