British Airways strike and Volcanic Ash cloud cause misery for air travellers
The volcanic ash cloud from Iceland is continuing to cause disruption across Europe. UK airspace is the worst affected, with airports and airspace being closed on numerous occasions over the past week or so.
There is now the curious situation at Gatwick, of aircraft allowed to take-off but not land! Apparently this is due to the proximity of the ash cloud to one side of the airport.
Check the latest flight information on the UK Airport Delays website.
To add to the disruption, British Airways cabin crew are due to begin their next strike action tomorrow, 18th May until the 9th June. Today, the new UK transport minister, Phil Hammond, is to meet with the BA executive and union leaders in an effort to find a solution.
Unite's joint leader Tony Woodley said in a statement that an agreement had already been reached to resolve the original dispute but that the dispute was being prolonged because of BA's refusal to restore travel concessions to staff and over the suspension of 50 cabin crew.
British Airways are hoping to operate the majority of their flights despite the strike. Check details on the BA website.
