Description:
Rail company SNCF have announced a ‘gesture of solidarity’ with people affected by the storm Xynthia, and will offer thousands of cheap tickets for people travelling to and from key towns in Poitou Charentes and Vendee.
10,000 additional seats will be made available under the Prem’s tariff, which offers cheap weekend tickets for people who book in advance and who do not need the flexibility to change travel times.
Damage from the storm has made travelling in the region difficult, and the offer stands to benefit local people travelling within the area, and is designed to help boost tourism by offering the cheap tickets for travel to and from the towns of La Rochelle, Surgères, Niort, La Roche sur Yon and Les Sables d’Olonne for the weekends from 4 June and 11/14 June.
In addition, SNCF are donating cheques voyages to local territorial collectivities for onward distribution to families most affected by the storm, to help support travel over the coming weeks.
The line between La Rochelle and Saintes has been severely damaged by water, and is closed whilst engineers assess how long it will take to repair. Replacement bus services will operate between La Rochelle and Rochefort. For the latest update from SNCF click here.
