Description:
An enormous project to build an auto-sports circuit at Maine-de-Boixe in North Charente is set to start in March, bringing with it improvements to a dangerous junction of the RN10.
The project will include the development of an industrial estate nearby, with the surface of ten hectares providing the site for 33,000 m2 of commercial real-estate. The site will be home to an educational pole for future engineers who want to specialise in automotive technology and innovation. The site, which will belong to the company Ecodime, will be able to accommodate around 4,000 trainees per year, and will become like a laboratory for the car of tomorrow, testing new technologies such as electric and hybrid vehicles.
The developers Bernard Moreau and Jacques Nicolet also plan to install a vast photovoltaic farm of more than 54,000 m2, with 40,000 m2 of the solar panels to be installed on the roofs of the new commercial buildings, and 10,000 m2 to be integrated into the anti-noise walls around the track.
Investors in the site will have to find more than 20 million euros, including 12 million euros for development of the circuit alone, which will be sited on a 60 hectare space. The project could end up providing up to 300 jobs for the duration of three to four years, although at start up the workforce could initially be around eighty people.
The start of building work will coincide with the removal of a dangerous crossroads on the RN10, which runs alongside the site of the new development.
