Description:
The chamber of commerce (CCI) in Poitiers will this week attempt to bring on-board additional partners, in an attempt to raise the required funds to satisfy Ryanair for the continuation of services to the UK.
Officials representing the Poitiers area (CAP) refused to increase funding as demanded by Ryanair, at a special meeting held on Thursday night. The offer from CAP is to pay the agreed amount of 777,000 euros for 2010 as long as the three current routes are maintained, with the agreed amount of 1.1 million euros on offer if the additional route to Barcelona is forthcoming.
It is believed that Ryanair are unlikely to accept this offer, and could pull out of Poitiers, leaving the airport with only the Lyon service from Airlinair and the summer charter flights to holiday destinations. Officials were discussing contingency plans in the event that Ryanair do withdraw services.
The CCI are hoping to attract other investors, such as Futuroscope, in order to increase the financial incentive for Ryanair. The region’s flagship theme park would stand to benefit from the continuation and expansion of services to the airport.
As things stand, hopes are fading for an agreement with the Irish budget carrier.
