Dutch low-cost airline Transavia are to start a new route between Rotterdam and La Rochelle this summer, with flights starting on 17 April.

The company plans to operate three flights per week, on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Whilst La Rochelle still offers a good range of British destinations, airlines have started to look at other countries to fill the gaps left by a reduction in British visitors to France as a result of the euro exchange rate.

Ryanair were first to switch their attention to the benelux countries, with a new route launched between La Rochelle and Brussels Charleroi last summer.  They have since announced a route from Oslo (Norway), which is due to start in spring,
