Planète des Crocodiles opens in Civaux

Saturday afternoon at 3pm, the newest animal park in Poitou Charentes opened its doors for the first time, two days ahead of schedule.

Planète des Crocodiles welcomed 600 visitors, an impressive number considering that the summer holidays is not considered a good time to launch a new business.   Up to 100 crocodiles paddled peacefully in the 30C water as the first visitors arrived, whilst a group of young Nile crocodiles squabbled over food under the admiring glances of the spectators. 

In the coming days around 60 more animals will arrive, with the eventual number residents expected to reach 200.  Notably, the crocodiles of China, an endangered species who's traditional habitat has been destroyed by agricultural and urban development.
