Reports suggest that the property market is beginning to look up. Indeed France is declared officially out of recession and this week the Euro zone also declared growth of 0.4%. In the Charente Maritime reports suggest increasing numbers of Belgium and Swiss buyers alongside the traditional English speaking purchaser and interest from clients from other ex pat communities as far afield as the Arab Emirates as well as a noticeable increase in the number of French buyers.

Granted that the exchange rate between UK sterling and the Euro leaves a lot to be desired but this is really a great time to buy. Interest rates are at an all time low meaning your mortgage is going to cost you a lot less than we have seen for quite a while and banks keen to lend money as long as your figures stack up. What is more there are some fabulous properties on the market and finally at a realistic price.

I think is fair to say that the market albeit not as buoyant as we have witnessed in the last three years has now adjusted to a level that now becomes more realistic to the average buyer. Didier Deboutrois from Europe Immo in Jonzac seems very positive for the coming months with more clients contacting the agency this month than he has seen for a while…..”Clients are coming with much more realistic expectations of what they want and what they can afford and keen to secure a property on their first visit rather than visit several times before committing to a deal. It is great for us of course but it also helps restore faith in the market and gives us all a lot more confidence for the future.”

Other agencies in the Charente Maritime report similar and colleagues over in the Vienne also suggest a corresponding trend.
