It was a big miss in the summer 2008 calendar, but the 16th Coupe d'Europe de Montgolfieres returns to Charente at the end of July with a terrific four-day programme to help the association celebrate its 40 years of existence.
Things get underway on Thursday 30 July at Les Antilles in Jonzac between 17h30 and 19h30, with the competition moving on to L'Ile aux vaches in Angouleme on 31 July between 18h30 and 20h30. The weekend continues at La Croix Montamette in Cognac on Saturday 1 August, with activities getting underway at 18h30 and finishing at 20h30.
Sunday 2 August sees a full day of activities get underway at Mainfonds, starting at 9h with visitors being offered flights in ULM aircraft and helicopters. A motorcycle trial will be held at 11h, and from 14h an air show will give visitors he chance to see aircraft such as Soko, Marchetti and Spitfire, with the Breitling aerobatic team also on the bill. In a late addition to the programme, the Moroccan Air Force will be making an appearance with a demonstration of formation flying.
Some 60 balloons are set to take part in the event, and 40,000 spectators are expected over the four days of competition.
