Description:
Some will see it as blessed relief from the fierce heat we're living with this summer, but the weather has nothing to do with the exceptional opening of the ice rink this summer, in the regional capital Poitiers.
Local skating hero Brian Joubert is currently preparing for the 2010 Winter Olympics, and as a result the rink is being opened so that he can continue his training throughout the summer. The rink opened yesterday (29 June), and will be open throughout July and August.
It is not just Brian Joubert who can benefit though, as from 2 July the rink will be open to the public every afternoon from Tuesday to Friday.
Those who hold a 'Carte Parasol' can skate for free between 14h and 18h (Wed and Fri in July), and between 13h30 and 15h30 (Wed and Fri in August).
A new innovation is the 'Ice Garden' which is being run every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, with qualified coaches offering tips to parents and small children together. This is available from 13h30 to 15h30 in July, and 14h to 15h30 in August. A single tarif of 3,15€ covers entrance and skate hire for this session.
