Description:
As part of the celebrations of 400 years of Quebec, the Tour de la Chaine in La Rochelle, has been restored and laid out for a permanent exhibition helping visitors to discover the origins of the founding of Quebec, and the close links between Poitou-Charentes and the Belle Province.
The exhibition retraces the story of the founding of Quebec and the famous voyage of Samuel de Champlain. who left from Brouage in 1608 to found the town of Quebec. Organized in three levels, the exhibition evokes this adventure starting with the arrival of the migrants at the port of La Rochelle, the departure point for the "New Worlds." A multimedia space and projected short films underline the links that unite Quebec to the region of Poitou-Charentes.
Back in May, a flotilla of sailing yachts left La Rochelle to travel across the Atlantic loaded up with barrels containing souvenirs and greetngs from the Mairies of Poitou Charentes. La Grande Traversee is due to complete on 19 August with the return of the yachts to La Rochelle.
