Description:
A new law that could have allowed the state to cut-off the internet connections of people caught illegally downloading files from the internet, has been quashed by the French Judiciary, according to The Guardian.
The controversial law, which has already been passed by the Senate and the National Assembly, proposed to cut-off the internet connections of persistent offenders, on a three-strikes basis, but the opposition Socialists stepped in and requested that the Constitutional Council review the law.
Judges ruled that "free access" to online communications services is a human right, and cannot be withheld without a judge's intervention.
