Description:
Following the disruptions of winter 2007/8 with no flights at all to Poitiers Biard airport, Ryanair are to offer limited services this coming winter. Two flights a week will operate from London Stansted, on Fridays and Mondays.
The withdrawal of flights in winter 2007/8 was part of a cost cutting exercise by Ryanair, as they saw it as more profitable to ground the planes rather than fly un-profitable routes. In all, 7 of their Stansted based aircraft were grounded, and Poitiers was one of a number of European routes affected.
The Ryanair service is seen as vital to the local economy, with a recent survey of British passengers by the Chamber of Commerce highlighting that 57% would not have made the journey without the offer of low-cost travel.
