Description:
Ferry company LD Lines announced today that it plans to introduce the worlds largest diesel powered catamaran to their Dover-Boulogne cross channel route, according to the BBC.
The 11,000 tonne 112m long Incat catamaran will make four return crossings per day, with the crossing time reduced from 1h45 to 1h. A conventional ferry will continue to operate on the route, with the total number of return crossings by LD Lines raised to six. The new vessel is large enough to carry all types of tourist traffic, as well as freight.
Boulogne's new roll-on roll-off (RO RO) port hub is set to be completed in the summer, with a planned opening in July.
