A convicted fraudster from Shropshire who has been on the run for four years has been captured in the Deux Sevres town of Melle, reports local paper The Shropshire Star.
David Oakley who is 62 was convicted of fraud last year, after eventually admitting dishonesty in the running of three holiday firms. He was convicted of breaching a directors' disqualification order, fraudulent trading, obtaining money by deception, evading payment and using forged cheques.
Oakley was arrested along with his wife on Friday, by gendarmes from the regional capital Poitiers where both are now being held. Following extradition, Oakley will have to serve the three years and nine months jail sentence already imposed. The couple will appear in a local court later this week.
