Google Street View of Poitiers

Description:

On March 18^th 2009 Google made its Street View facility available for a whole host of French towns and cities, including Poitiers.

Since 2007 Google has been taking images of towns and cities all over the world, from specially adapted which have a 360 degree camera mounted on the roof.  For narrower streets not accessible to cars, motorbikes have been used to capture the images. 

The Street View facility can be accessed via Google Maps, and you can see an example of how it looks in the image below.

To experience the Street View images, follow these instructions:

1. Access Google Maps using this link.

2. Type in to the search field the place you want to see (ie Poitiers)

3. When the map appears, zoom in a little so you can see street names.

4. In the top left hand corner you will see an icon of a person in orange (above the zoom slider)

5. Drag and drop the orange person to the street you want to see.

6. The images should appear!

The new facility is a great way of checking out the area before you travel.
