No autoroute between Poitiers and Limoges

Secretary of State for Transport Dominique Bussereau has said in a letter to the president of the Vienne General Council Claude Bertaud, that the proposed new toll-road between Poitiers and Limoges is not part of the national plan for transport infrastructure.

Instead work will focus on the existing plans to upgrade the RN147 and RN149, in particular focussing on the existing projects to by-pass both Fleuré and Lhommaizé, and to commence a study into a by-pass for Lussac-les-Chateaux.  Claude Bertaud expressed his relief that the project has been dropped, and that progress can be made on upgrading the existing route between 2009 and 2014.

Socialist politicians have criticised the decision, and the delays in completing existing projects to upgrade the RN147, which have been ongoing since 2006.  They have asked the government to provide firm timescales for completion of the work, although Domenique Bussereau has said that work will have to be completed within budgetary constraints.

The proposal for an autoroute between Nantes-Poitiers-Limoges had been put forward by officials in Limousin, and had always been opposed by those in Vienne.
