Two key Poitou-Charentes attractions reopen after heavy investment

Whilst the refurbished La Rochelle Aquarium reopened last weekend after a million euros of investment, the Val de Vienne motor racing circuit is scheduled to reopen on Valentines weekend, and like every year it is offering the general public an opportunity to take their car round the fast circuit.

The Aquarium in La Rochelle closed on 5 January for maintenance and updating, having received over 6 million visitors since it opened in December 2000. The enhancements include new basins, information panels aimed at children, and new attractions such as a walkway with fish projected onto the floor, and a new interactive octopus in the Mediterranean room. In addition the Café de l'Aquarium, which was closed on 10 November, is now situated above the ‘serre tropicale', affording pleasant views over the quai des Chalutiers and the old town.

 

The motor racing circuit at Le Vigeant near L'Isle Jourdain reopens on 14 February, with a weekend allowing members of the public to take a tour of the track in (or on) their own vehicle. Saturday will be restricted to motorcycles only, and then the Sunday is dedicated to cars only. The local council is investing heavily in the Val de Vienne track, in the hope that it will one day host international races. Around a million euros will be spent upgrading and improving the facility, so that it becomes a Grade 2 motorsports venue.
