New Dover-Boulogne ferry service brought forward

19 January 2009

Description:

LD Lines has announced the early launch of its two new services which will operate from Dover Port.  The new routes will carry passenger and freight traffic to both Boulogne and Dieppe, starting nearly 6 months ahead of schedule on 12 February.

The company will utilise the berth previously occupied by the now defunct Speedferries, utilising two conventional ferries on rotation.  The Seven Sisters and Cote d'Albatre were both built in 2007 and have the capacity to carry 600 passengers and either 300 cars or 52 freight lorries.

The decision comes as a boost to Boulogne Port, which has suffered since the demise of Speedferries.  The former fast-ferry operator carried around 700,000 passengers per year.

Fares for tourists on the Dover-Boulogne route start from £24 one-way for a car and 4 passengers, and the Dover-Dieppe route is available from £29.50 each way for a car and two passengers.  These special fares must be booked by 31 January via www.ldlines.com or by calling +33 (0)844 576 8836.

Details of the crossing-times and further information from LD Lines can be found by clicking here.
