Description:
Originally planned for last Thursday, the road block of the RN10 in Charente was deferred because of concerns over safety, with the adverse weather conditions last week. Jacques Chabot has now confirmed that the protest will go ahead this Friday, with significant disruption expected as a result. The elected officials in the south of Charente decided to take the action back in December, in an effort to ensure funding is made available to convert the stretch of road between Reignac and Chevanceaux into dual-carriageway. The project will take around 71 million euros to complete, but local residents, road-users and elected officials are in agreement at the importance of upgrading the 11.4km stretch of road, which has become an accident blackspot, handling some 20,000 vehicles per day.
The protest is timed to send a message to decision-makers in Paris who will shortly be agreeing budgets for upgrading the roads network. 3.8 billion euros is up for grabs between 2009 and 2013, and secretary of state for transport Domenique Bussereau is expected to announce his plans during January.
Jacques Chabot who is president of the communaute de communes 3B (Barbezieux, Baignes and Brossac) confirmed that the action will start at 10am, with officials joined by local residents to form a road-block between Chantillac and the junction with the D133 Bors-de-Baignes.
