Success of Ryanair services to Angoulême boosts economy

A recent report by the Chamber of Commerce (CCI) in Angoulême has highlighted the importance of being served by a budget airline route.  The services introduced by Ryanair last summer are reported to have benefited the Charente economy by around 52 million euros, after carrying 25,000 passengers since its launch.

Both passenger numbers and their spending in the Charente has exceeded expectations, and the success could lead to the existing services being extended to five times per week, instead of the current 3 times weekly service, with daytime flights also a possibility rather than the current evening timetable.  A timetable that spans the weekend is also something that CCI president Daniel Braud would like to see, to help those people who live in the Charente but who commute back to the UK to work, as well as French people who may be attracted by a weekend in London.

There are hopes that the success will bring further routes to the airport, with Ryanair mulling over a new route, possibly to Glasgow, and charter airline Odusseus possibly looking at offering flights to the UK, Marrakech and Castres.
