The Museum of François Rupert de Chièvres is situated in the centre of Poitiers. François Rupert de Chièvres was a great collector and his town house displays many paintings and decorative arts of the 15th to the17th centuries.
Majolica, pharmacy jars, and precious painted Renaissance enamelware and furniture demonstrate how styles have changed throughout the centuries.
Historical, genre, and Flemish and Dutch paintings from the Golden Age are the highlight of the art collection together with the gallery of 18th century French portraits and several Italian masterpieces.
Temporary exhibitions show off the wealth of graphic arts housed in the various museums in Poitiers. A chamber featuring ceramics offers introspection to European and Chinese ceramic art of the 16th and 19th century
