Description:
The church of Saint Hilaire in Poitiers is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Monumentand was used as a stop-over on the way to Santiago di Compostella since the 12th century.
Built in the 11th century, the church is dedicated to the famous Poitevin bishop Hilaire and has a Romanesque chancel and a Roman transept of impressive height and luminosity. Remarkable in the balance of its volume, the entrance to Sainte Hilaire opens to four chapels whose Romanesque wall paintings represent one of the first paintings of the Apocalypse.
