Cognac Vineyards - Footpath - Charente

Description:

13 km, 3 1/4, start from Jarnac. Red-white signage at the start of the walk, then yellow, then red-white signage again.  Reference: Topo-guide entitled "La Charente à pied", Ref. D016, FFRP.

Start from the car park on Place du château.  This walk provides alternating views of the cognac vineyards and the towpath on the banks of the River Charente.On Quai François-Mitterrand on the right bank of the River Charente, follow the towpath to the wooden gate. Pass the sewage farm and head for the Domaine de la Gibauderie.

From there, follow the path through the vineyards for 1.4 km. At the crossroads in the thicket, turn right, follow the yellow-red signs then turn onto the wide white path on the right and enter Chassors by Rue du Coteau.

Turn left twice, back onto the path through the vineyards. After 300 metres, turn right and head for the hamlet of Bellejoie. Follow the yellow signs to the hamlet of La Barde then on to Lansement, beyond the crossroads at La Croix-Bernard.  From there, continue on to the River Charente. Do not cross the bridge.

Instead, continue along the left bank towards the lock at Bourg-Charente. Walk along the towpath back to the car park.
