Description:

Geography and Transport

Mansle is a small village (area 5.75km2) located North of Angouleme at 55m to 115m altitude.  The RN10 (Poitiers-Bordeaux) is easily accessible, as it passes close by to the East.   Angouleme airport is to the South East, with flights direct to the UK 3 times per week.  The TGV mainline is available from Ruffec (18km), with connection to Paris possible in around 2h30min.

Climate

Climate here is Maritime, and therefore temperate with four clearly defined seasons.  Average Summer temperatures are between 24C to 27C (13C-15C night), and in Winter this drops to 9C to 10C (3C night).  As with much of Poitou Charentes, the Autumn can be warm, with average temperatures in Sept of 23C and Oct 19C.  The months of October and November are normally the wettest, while June and July are the driest.   Mansle is part of a zone which receives over 2000 hours of sunshine per year.


Tourism

Mansle is located on the Charente River, and therefore provides access to fishing, canoeing and swimming.  There is a municipal campsite located to the north of the river, and a little further to the north is the Hippodrome (horse racing circuit) which holds races during June and July.  Parc Jean-Pierre Lanson is a botanical garden with around 500 varieties of fuchsias, open every day during July and August (weekends only June and Sept).   Les Floralies (flower show) is held along the road at Echoisy each year in May.  The Eglise St Leger is a mixture of architectural styles from the 12th, 15th and 16th Centuries.

Mansle is part of the Angouleme economic zone, which has an unemployment rate of 9.7%, compared against the regional rate of 8.6% and the national rate of 9.1% (INSEE 2006).
