AIGRE SATURDAY MARKET
AIGRE DAY/NIGHT MARKET
Corr!! How lucky are the Charente Ex-pats this Saturday. There just so happens to be, not only one, but two wonderful markets arranged for the pretty village of Aigre this Saturday. Situated on the D736 and in-between Rouillac and Ruffec the pristine village of Aigre is the welcoming host to an English market in the morning and a French/English market in the evening.
The English market gladly presents an eclectic array of home made items that have been carefully produced by it's competent, hospitable artisans. From your favourite blighty groceries to individual hand crafted jewellery, from intricate, hand knitted jumpers to amusing garden furniture. Not only is there two markets to peruse, Aigre itself quite easily maintains a lovely vibrant local atmosphere with well groomed paths for you to admire the many local shops and eateries, not to mention the wonderful architecture. Aigre in the morning should be firmly placed in your weekend plans and like I mentioned about Rouillac market, be sure to visit Jessica's stall "Le Petit Snack Stop" and try one of her legendary sandwiches. In the evening it all happens again, but this time on a grander scale, where the English coincide with the French like a deep blue beret on a head. The night time is much bigger and louder. The night market boasts more than fifty stalls, music, children's fair and much more. I suggest that you go to both and enjoy your own little Glastonbury in Aigre. Well it wont actually be Glastonbury, but when in Rome. Now that I've shared my little secret, I hope to see you all Saturday.
