ROUILLAC'S MARKET ON THE 27TH

Market Time Again

It’s the 27th once again and the sun is scorching high amidst the vast blanket of bright blue sky. The mass of sunflowers are still only in their early stages but the immaculate vin yards are once again becoming a dominate feature of this industrious landscape. The time is 11:00 and on the walk towards one of the main markets inside the Charente I notice that the normal hive of activity inside the many fields has come to a halt and all the noisy machinery is parked away under large steel sheds. The reason why all this has happened is suddenly revealed when I eventually reach the market square. All the eager farm workers have left behind their well groomed fields for the day and are all conversing and having some relaxed fun by the many wine stalls inside the market. In the distance the Peruvian Indians, in their national costume play their pan pipes too many an admiring tourist, whilst all the horses and ponies receive their millionth caring stroke form the many smiling children. The large eclectic market basically takes up the whole of Rouillac and there isn’t much that you can’t find once you’re inside. From cars to oyster knives, from ducks to candles and from Plants to sweatshirts, Nothings been left out. And the greatest thing of all is that it still remains authentically French. As you wander at your own eager pace around the large and atmospheric market I’m sure you’ll be in awe of the attention to detail that this well rehearsed and professionally designed monthly function has to offer. Every street is jam packed with stalls and on every corner there is a crowd of happy smiling faces clutching onto the bargains they’ve acquired. In this market there is definitely something for everyone and everyone is carrying something. I would definitely put the 27th in your diary next month and when you do eventually reach the market and after a long look around I’d pop to Jessica’s food stall “Le Petit Snack Stop” and indulge with one of her many, very tasty delights and when you do make sure you let it be known that Thomas gave you instructions to do so. So if it isn’t already, I’d add the 27th of every month to your calendar planner and indulge in everyone’s favourite pastime.
