We offer accommodation in one of the sunniest areas in France.  A paradise for fishermen and nature lovers alike - the area offers opportunities for walking, cycling, birdwatching, horse riding, golf, watersports, flying, history and culture.

Or just relax on the patio amongst the roses and herbs, or at the rear of the garden, which backs on to the meandering River Dive.  Listen to the birds or watch the resident moor hen.   

In the rear of the garden can be found an original, medieval ball from a catapult used during the seige of the local ancient donjon.  

This enchanting, historic family run bed and breakfast accommodation is set on the edge of the attractive, historical french village of Moncontour, on the border of Vienne and Deux Sevres.  Set in its own private sunny grounds, it can be found amongst flowing rivers and forest walks, but within walking distance of all amenities.

Accommodation

The rear of the house looks out over the local forest, whilst the front door is within walking distance of all amenities.

There is a large beamed sitting room with beautiful double patio windows and a log burner for those cosy winter evenings. 

Guests have use of the lounge where both French and English television is available.

There is also a DVD player, stereo, books, games, (WIFI) internet access and a piano.

Breakfast can be taken in the dining area overlooking the garden or out on the patio.

Rooms        

Le Grand Saule Chambre d'Hote offers a very spacious family room, ensuite (with power shower), with a double bed, single bed and possible further single bed or cot.

And a spacious double room with double bed and room for further single bed or cot.  The room is ensuite - the bathroom being part tiled and which includes a beautiful old roll top bath.

Beautiful beamed rooms with large sunny windows both overlooking our beautiful garden and the river Dive.  The family room has a huge beautiful fireplace and the double room an ancient charentaise fireplace.

Every effort has been made to offer comfort whilst retaining the character of the rooms.  Beautiful white cotton sheets and embroidered pillowcases add that taste of luxury to the rooms.

The rooms are all equipped with satellite television, radio alarms and tea and coffee making facilities.

Prices

Family room:  45 euros per night (cot and highchair available)

Double room:     35 euro per night

including continental breakfast

Table d'hote

A set four course evening meal including drinks is also available for 15 euros

typical set menu:  toasted goat's cheese; Pork Normandie, cheese plate, fruit flan. 

Or if you prefer a shorter simple two course such as chicken and chips and desert with drinks

for 8 euro then we are happy to try accommodate.

We can even arrange to pick you up from, and drop you off at Poitiers airport/train station.

We are also happy to accommodate children and well behaved dogs. (Child minding can be arranged.

Mrs Weston, a previous teacher, holds UK police clearance to work with children)

Bicycles are available to take a leisurely bike ride to explore the local neighbourhood.

Safe and secure parking is available within the grounds.
