Welcome to Maureville Bed and Breakfast

If you are looking for a French farmhouse countryside holiday, a short break to rest and recuperate, or just a stopover for en-route to faraway places, then look no further.

Maureville is a 17th century stone farmhouse set in the Charente river valley, in the Vienne department which is in the region of Poitou-Charentes.  We are 5 miles south of Charroux and surrounded by farmland, mostly grass for the Limousin beef herds that flourish here, but also wheat, maize, sunflowers and woodlands in every direction.

The river, with all its wonderful wildlife, is across the field at the bottom of our 2-acre garden.

It is a nature lover's paradise where you can potter along the bank in search of the elusive kingfisher, or just sit and relax in the garden and watch the hoopoe nest building in the barn opposite, or the swallows and black redstarts with their nests in the stables, or just 'chill', have a glass of wine and read a book in the sunshine.

Through the trees we can see Beauregard Chateau and Beauregard farm, which is a prestigious equestrian centre.

We are open all through the year and give a warm welcome to guests coming on holiday to experience French lifestyle and countryside.

Bedrooms

At present we have 2 magnificent double rooms available, both en-suite. We can add an extra single bed if needed.   Electric wall heaters are in the rooms for people coming on winter trips. We also offer fans in the summer!

On the landing between the 2 rooms is a fridge for guest use (to keep the beer and wine cool!)    Tea & coffee facilities are also available.

Downstairs there is a comfortable lounge-with a wood-burning stove for those cool autumn and winter evenings. Books and games are available for your use.

In the garden there are seats in the shade and seats in the sun and one by the pond where you can watch the frogs and the many-coloured dragon-flies!

Breakfast

Continental Breakfast of fresh fruit, compotes and juices, cereals and yogurts, home-made bread and toast, croissants and pain au chocolate from the local boulangerie, served with jams and marmalades-11 different sorts nearly all made from Maureville produce-with unlimited tea, coffee or hot chocolate.

Bumper Farmhouse Breakfast of bacon, sausage, egg, tomato, mushroom, sauté potato and fried bread (as was served at our B&B in Wales) is also available  - from 8€ per person

Dining can be on the terrace under a parasol, or in the farmhouse kitchen according to the weather!

Barbecues

When weather permits we offer a 2-course barbecue to our guests in the evenings. This includes an aperitif and wine - from 12.50€ per person

A game of boules invariably follows!
